During my Metals II class, we had the chance to participate in a multidisciplinary project called Experiencing The Bosque at the Rio Bosque Wetlands in El Paso, TX.
Our task was to design and create both costumes and body decorations for the performance. To better understand the environment, we took several field trips to the wetlands, learning about the diverse flora, fauna, and even the microbial life thriving there. We also gained insight into the importance of this ecosystem in our region and the dedicated work of the staff, led by John Sproul and assisted by Sergio Samaniego. With John’s permission, I even had the opportunity to place several Geocaches in the area!
We collaborated with dancers and musicians, tailoring our designs to their exact measurements. Seeing the pieces we had worked on for weeks come to life as they moved, perfectly integrated with their performances, was an unforgettable experience. At times, it felt like we had no idea what we were doing, but in the end, everything came together beautifully.
I had an absolute blast! Despite the challenges, I was incredibly proud of the results and grateful for the opportunity to learn so much while working alongside so many inspiring and talented people.

Here are some of the pieces I created:
