Amor Infinito: Celebrating Love and Loss

En cualquier instante
Cuando menos los esperes
Así de vil y salvaje, todo llega a su fin

Natalia Lafourcade

My piece, Amor Infinito, was created and exhibited for Día de los Muertos in the first edition of Rayènari Light Based Art Festival, as a heartfelt tribute to the enduring connections we share with those who have departed. This work is dedicated to my grandfather, who raised me with unconditional love and guidance as both a father and best friend, and to my father-in-law, a man of great kindness and decency who left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The piece combines handmade cempazúchitl (marigold) flowers, symbolic of life and death, with wood panels laser-etched with phrases from iconic Mexican songs about love, loss, and remembrance. These elements, bathed in the glow of neon light, evoke the infinite bond we carry with loved ones who are no longer physically present but remain deeply alive in our memories and hearts.

Through Amor Infinito, I reflect on how love transcends death, becoming an enduring force that shapes our lives. This infinite love not only keeps the memories of those who have passed alive but also inspires us to celebrate life and cherish those who are still with us. Día de los Muertos strengthens these invisible connections, allowing us to honor and celebrate those who have shaped us, even as we mourn their absence.

This piece is a reminder that love, like the glow of the marigolds and the soft illumination of the neon lights, endures, radiating through time, space, and memory.
